A Message from the MCOC Leadership
Dear Mitchell Church of Christ Family,

What a wonderful worship service we had yesterday as we were reminded that we can have confidence, peace, and clarity knowing that God is in control. Yes, we face uncertain times with the current coronavirus event in this fallen world, but how joyful we can be knowing that we are under God’s umbrella of spiritual protection. The one and only God, who spoke all into existence, has certainly never promised us the lack of pain, sickness, hardships, or trials in this world. In fact, we know that we will face these things. However, as believers we are promised an eternal home free from all difficulties. That, brothers and sisters, is worthy of a hearty “amen”!
With that being said, we do understand that as humans living in our temporary home, there are steps that can be taken to try and reduce the transmission of the virus in the hopes of reducing or avoiding infection to ourselves and others in the community. We have closely examined recommendations from health organizations, medical professionals, and both state and federal government leaders. We certainly have a desire to do our part in helping ensure the good health of as many people as possible. We had a plan in place, which we were going to share today, with specific safety precautions which would allow us to remain open for worship services only. However, last night (Sunday, March 15th) the CDC has requested and recommended no gatherings of more than 50 people in the United States for the next 8 weeks. With that in mind, and with an abundance of caution, we feel it is in the best interest of everyone to heed their warning.
Effective immediately, the Mitchell Church of Christ will be cancelling all worship services, Bible classes, Life Groups, and youth group activities through at least April 25th. In addition, all non-church sponsored events normally held in our facilities will be discontinued. We will continually monitor the situation and adjust this plan as needed.
This drastic step is something that we never dreamed we would face, even as recently as just a few days ago. However, we have always believed in operating with the “erring on the side of caution” mentality. The safety and wellbeing of our members, visitors, and community must be taken into account in our decision making process.
We encourage each of you to continue to put your spiritual growth as a vitally important part of your daily lives. We will be making materials/sermons/messages available on-line each week, via our website (mitchellchurch.org). Please join us in this format of worship for the time being. We look forward to the day when we can once again meet together and worship as a family. We love you each and cherish the times we spend together.
It should be noted that there will continue to be a great need in our community. Therefore, The Bread of Life Food Pantry will remain open, with regular hours, to continue to serve the needs of the community. Several health precautions have been enacted by the workers there.

In closing, we ask for your understanding that we are taking this step, not out of panic, but out of precautions and concerns for our members and the community. Please join us in praying fervently for healing, for stopping of the spread of the virus, for peace and calm, and for the confidence to face whatever comes our way. Make sure to live out the example given to us by Christ – to love God and to love others. Check regularly on the elderly and your neighbors. Above all else, remember that God is in control. He will lead us through these times.

In His Love,
The leadership at Mitchell Church of Christ March 16, 2020
