What to Expect When You
Worship With Us
Visiting a church assembly for most people is pretty hard. You don't know what to expect when you walk through the doors. Will the people be friendly? Where will I sit? Will I be embarrassed by being singled out?
We try to make a visit to our worship assembly a simple and painless process. Everything is fairly informal. People will speak to you; we have a reputation as a friendly church. No one will be too pushy.
John 4:23-24 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Arrival:
When you arrive, you'll be greeted at the door with a warm, welcoming smile. Our greeters (weekly volunteers) are here to help and serve you. If you have any questions, just ask them. They will answer your questions and help in anyway they can. They will give you our weekly bulletin, which will explain to you the order for the day's worship service. Feel free to sit wherever you would like. Do not be surprised if several folks talk to you as we are always excited to see new faces.
Worship:

Our worship service strives to be uplifting, loving, and sincere. There will be congregational singing, prayers, communion service, a collection, reading from God's word (Bible), and a sermon. Our acts of worship are lead by our ministers, elders, deacons, and lay members, both men and women.
Singing:

As you sit in our assembly there is a good chance that you will have questions come to mind. The first question that arises for visitors to our assembly usually is "Where's the music?" or something similar. Good question; very fair question! A cappella (without instruments) music is a part of our tradition, based on Scripture and church history. While it may seem unusual to those who are used to instruments, we enjoy the simplicity and beauty of blending diverse human voices into simple praise to God.
We do not view singing as a form of entertainment, but instead as an enjoyable way to praise our Father. There will be songs sung throughout our worship service.

Hebrews 13:15 — Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise — the fruit of lips that confess his name.
Prayer:

We believe in the power of prayer. Therefore, during our worship we will offer prayers to God for the purpose of giving him praise and as a way to bring requests to Him. Prayers will be led by members of the congregation to give thanks to God for his many blessings and on behalf of those who need his blessings and assistance. It is truly a great comfort to know that God hears our prayers. The prayers that are led will be from the heart of those leading them.
Reading of the Word (Scripture):

Our worship will include a public reading from the Bible. This is meant as a way of encouraging us to listen to what God has previously spoken or has directed to be taught. The Bible passage will bring out the theme of the day's worship service and sermon. It is important to know that God's word is still living and active. It still impacts our lives today.
Sermon/Lesson:

Our worship service will consist of a sermon, which generally is about thirty minutes long. The goal of this lesson is to teach God's word and to assist us in living out our lives as God instructs. The sermons are based upon the Bible. At the conclusion of the sermon, there is an opportunity extended for those who are ready to follow Christ and to be baptized into Him. This same time is offered for anyone who needs special prayers or assistance.
The Lord's Supper (Communion Services):

As we gather for worship on the Lord's Day, we will remember the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We honor this remembrance by partaking in the Lord's Supper. This will include unleavened bread (represents Christ's body) and grape juice (represents Christ's blood). This Lord's Supper is reserved for baptized believers. Any visiting baptized believer is encouraged to participate in this sacred remembrance with us.
Giving from the Heart (Collection):

During our worship service, at the conclusion of the Lord’s Supper, we give our members the opportunity to return to God a portion of what He has blessed us with. This is a gift of thanks for all that we have been given. This gift should be a loving thanks, not one given out of feeling any pressure (II Corinthians 9:5-8). Our giving is an expression of gratitude, given freely in love. These gifts are used to support the continuing work of the Mitchell Church of Christ — both in providing for the spiritual and physical needs of those who need it. One Sunday a month, there is a special opportunity to give a donation that goes directly to the “Bread of Life Food Pantry”. This will be collected at the same time as the weekly giving and a small envelope is provided for these gifts. It is important as a visitor to know that although any offering you make will be accepted and greatly appreciated, you should not feel any obligation to give any money during this time of giving.
Benediction and Prayer:

Our worship service will conclude with a reading wrapping up the day's theme, as well as a final prayer.
We think you will really enjoy our worship service and will find it very Biblical, encouraging, uplifting, and spiritual. We encourage you to come and worship with us.
